I don't wanna make that joke, but just imagine they think half the akademiya is being shipped with wanderer because they at one point had to interact with him and use the name he's listed to everyone, hat guy.
Iike, they think some random joe shmoe is shipped with wanderer because he had to ask wanderer for directions (like a person thats lost and needing to go to another department in the akademiya)
Every sumeru character that had to talk to him and use the only name given to them(hat guy) also shipped apparently.
All joking aside, people just want to rage.
Imo, a person not being redeeming but being a villain /yet playable is a great idea. As long as they don't TRY to be redeemed. Or their redeemed completely. One or the other but not both, or a middle ground.
Like if dottore were to try and be redeemed, I would hate it. But if he was playable as is, I would be perfectly ok. Because its a interesting dynamic on how would you work with someone you cant trust in your party.
With wanderer. I get you and the rest of the CN communities complaints, and I do agree. redeeming wanderer is a terrible idea.
..But I don't think his actions were meant to redeem him. His goal wasn't for redemption, it was just so that history would have changed at least a little without his influence.
I mean, just imagine the pure trauma of his life, and then realizing he was never betrayed by his best friend to begin with. And his best friend was murdered and he knew nothing of it, killing others due to a cruel vengeance. While being manipulated and lied to with the mentality of a child abandoned by his mother, never to actually be taught and parented.
It would break a person to realize the last hundreds of years in your life were pointless and a game of chess to be manipulated to begin with.
Scaramouche says(correct me if I wrong) , that sometimes he'd wish he was never born at all. In some form of official media. (Forgot the source. But I know he says it SOMEWHERE.
What would you do if you given a choice; erase yourself, and all the bad crimes you did are undone forever. The miserable life you lived is gone. Your mistakes and Choices erased. But die instantly and never be remembered, you wouldn't exist. You dont know what will happen to you besides that , you will never be the same and wont be alive anymore. Its not redemption. Its more regretful suicide to be honest(imo.)
He didn't expect to be forgiven. He didn't expect to be redeemed. He just wanted to change the fate of the only person he cared about in a blip of the cold, lonely, and miserable life he lived.
I don't like him as a character. And I don't believe he's redeemed.
But I don't think that was meant as a redemption. Because he didn't want to be forgiven.
With the pure and kind line, that can be interpreted in a way or two.
Erasing yourself in a last dire attempt to give the person you love dearly like family a happy life, at the cost of ones self, is a true moment of selfless kindness and purity in ones heart.
someone can do unkind acts, and impure things, and still be a kind/pure person. Because we aren't defined by ONE act. Or two. Or three.

Wanderer isn't Scaramouche. He has his memories, but he isn't him. The same way that nahida isn't rukkhadevata.

In the universe where Scaramouche lived, he did terrible things with a sad life.
But in the universe/alternation that wanderer lived, we saw how kind and pure he was before adopting that past life's memories.
And while he does have Scaramouches consciousness and memories, he also has the memories and life of his new self.
To give a comparison, say you were a serial killer or criminal in your past life. And you die.
In your life, you live a happy, law abiding, pure, kind, selfless life, where you even donate to charity
And you somehow remember your past life.
Should you really be blamed for the crimes that you didnt do? After all , that version of you lived a different life? A example of what I mean is actually a character in another mihoyo game. Dan feng and Dan heng.
Dan feng is Dan hengs past incarnation and life. But he is not Dan heng. Even if Dan heng has his powers and has some of his memories.
